Mogalakwena Research Centre is an independent research entity based in the remote North-Western part of limpopo province, South Africa. The research centre was established in 2006 to document, to research and to further understanding and knowledge in the fields of ecology and anthropology in South Africa. Research is conducted at the Eco-centre and Craft art village, both situated within walking distance on mogalakwena river reserve. We facilitate research in our area by providing study opportunities, assisting with logistical and field work and by maintaining a research friendly environment for students, researchers and volunteers. We cater for researchers pursuing projects that can make use of the ecological, anthropological and social entrepreneurial study resources located at mogalakwena reserves. We develop and host programmes for student groups/volunteers/interns that complement studied coursework in the fields of: conservation biology, ecology and environmental management, cultural heritage management, reserves operations, ecotourism and recreation.

Accommodation is provided in the form of 4 dorm style units with a communal open air kitchen, hot showers and barbeque area.

A typical day at on Mogalakwena Reserves will kick off with early morning field work and data collection. during the warm parts of the day volunteers and students spend time entering data. Afternoons are spent tracking giraffe, working with horses, or doing other field work. Evenings are spent relaxing around a fire anda bit of games. Weekends are spent relaxing and visiting some local attractions like Mapungubwe National park, local hot springs, the Limpopo river and beautiful hikes up the mountain for a sundowner.
