Facilities include a shared kitchen, lounge and games room, plasma TV's, cosy fireplaces, separate male/female bathrooms, laundry facilities, an extensive outdoor entertainment area, spa pools, a kids playground and the Snowy Train.
Room types consist of double, twin, triple and quad bed configurations. We provide a bottom sheet, pillow and pillowcase. Other linen is available for hire at reception.
In summer walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, described as New Zealand's most popular one day walk. Explore hot springs, steaming vents, old lava flows and tranquil alpine lakes in some of the most dramatic and active areas of Tongariro National Park.
Canoe or jet boat the Whanganui River, visit the famous 'Bridge to Nowhere', observe native wildlife in their natural habitat and connect with the land and the people of the significant historic and cultural landscape that is Whanganui National Park.
In winter experience the adrenalin of skiing an active volcano. Majestic Mt Ruapehu at 2797m (9175ft) offers New Zealand's largest ski and snowboard area. Turoa skifield is 30 minutes from Snowy Waters Lodge, Whakapapa and the less known private skifield Tukino are both approximately one hour by car.
Other nearby activities include mountain biking, horse riding, trout fishing, bungy jumping, paintball, golf, nature walks and guided tours to 'Lord of the Rings' and 'River Queen' film locations. Our friendly reception staff can book activities and arrange transport for you.
Snowy Waters Lodge is 500 metres from the historic township of Raetihi, just off State Highway 4. We are approximately 1.5 hours drive from Taupo or Wanganui Airports or it is possible to take the Overlander Train from Auckland or Wellington to Ohakune.
Directions
Travelling from the North
Follow State Highway 4 to National Park. From National Park continue travelling south for 32kms until you reach the township of Raetihi. Take the first road on your right (Seddon Street) before the Caltex then turn left onto Ward Street. We are number 58.
Travelling from the South
Follow State Highway 1 to Waiouru. From Waiouru take a left onto State Highway 49 signposted for Ohakune. When you reach the Ohakune BP turn left and travel 11kms until you reach the intersection with State Highway 4. Head straight through the intersection and take your first left onto Ward Street. We are number 58.
