Edgewood Farm Bed and Breakfast is secluded yet accessible--two hours from Washington DC and one and one-half hour from Richmond, Virginia. Historical and natural attractions abound--Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, Montpelier, Monticello, Ashlawn, University of Virginia, as well as excellent restaurants, wineries, antique and craft shops.
Edgewood Farm Bed and Breakfast is a typical Colonial Virginia farmhouse built in 1790, added on to in 1830, and completely and faithfully restored in 1984-86. The house is built of cypress beaded siding with shake and tin roofs, original windows, heart pine floors, walnut main staircase, heart pine staircases, wide pine doors with original and replicated hardware, and seven working fireplaces. Edgewood was restored by a a Restoration Specialist and is decorated in period antiques and reproductions by an interior designer.
The Yellow Room is our most popular, romantic room and is from the Victorian era (1830). A beautifully carved, massive walnut queen-sized bed with white eyelet bed coverings is the focal point of the room. The walls are dressed in yellow floral wallpaper and the windows have white balloon shades. The room features a wood-burning fireplace, ceiling fan, heating and air-conditioning. The full private bath is decorated in shades of yellow. The Green Room from the Colonial era (1790) is also in demand with our guests. The Green Room is decorated in green floral bedcoverings and draperies. It features English horse prints and bird lithographs, a wood-burning fireplace, and a queen-sized pencil-post bed with fishnet canopy. The Green Room has television/VCR, ceiling fan, and heating and air-conditioning A full size bath with pink/sand fixtures adjoins the room. The Blue Room, also circa 1790, is a delightful, sunny room with blue print bedcoverings and curtains. It features twin beds, woodburning fireplace, ceiling fan, as well as heating and air-conditioning. The Blue Room can be connected to the Green Room for families and friends who don't mind sharing the bath.
Edgewood Farm offers excellent hiking and birding for the nature enthusiast. Horse-back riding is available nearby. Excellent restaurants and wineries are located nearby.
Special dietary requirements are met, and special occasion requests (flowers, champagne, etc.) are met with advance notice. Concierge services (reservations, directions, etc.) are offered by the hosts.
No pets allowed. The B&B is home to a beautiful golden retriever and two charming cats. Smoking outdoors only. Well-behaved children are welcome, as well as quiet babes-in-arm.
