This is undoubtedly the greatest of the remaining Byzantine sanctuaries in Greece. Legend has it that 99 doors have been discovered within the structure of the church and the 100th door will only be found after the return of Constantinople to the Greek Nation. Inside the church is a 17C ionostasis which is decorated with elaborate wood carvings and gilded wood work. .
Ayios Mamas, 2 miles NW from Sangri, Naxos Island

This is one of the oldest churches on the island and dates from the 8C.During the Byzantine reign it was the island's cathedral which was converted to a Catholic Church in 1207. Its ruinous state today is a result of neglect inflicted by the Venetians.

This amalgamation of four chapels that mix Byzantine and Vernacular idioms has been described as " a confectioners dream gone mad ". The unique architecture of the church is further enhanced by its stunning location.

This Cathedral is Venetian in origin and the entrance hall bears the name and coat of arms of the Ghisi family who took over the island in 1207.

This giant statue which lies on its back still resembling the shape of a man is though to represent Dionysos and was probably abandoned because cracks developed in the marble whilst work was in process.

Common theory is that this 7C statue was abandoned either because the artist made a mistake or because the client who commissioned it died.

Castles

Kastro Tis Grias, Korthion, Andros, Andros Island

These ruins of this Venetian Fortress and said to hold the legend of an old woman who tricked the guard into allowing her access to the castle, which she later opened to the Ottoman Turks. After the soldiers slaughtered the Venetians inside the fortress the old woman, filled with remorse leapt to her death from the cliffs which now bear the name Tis Grias To Podema Old Lady's Leap.
