New Zealand is recognized as a wilderness destination, with its diverse range of landscapes from snow capped mountain ranges, river systems, lakes, and a seemingly endless coast line. Travelers to New Zealand revel in the compact nature of the country there are very few places in the world where you can experience such diversity within a small area. With the diverse landscape comes a wide range of flora and fauna, from alpine herb gardens, dense rainforest, to the sparse vegetation of the North Island Volcanic Desert Lands. There is something different around every corner, even the weather is changeable, you can be in torrential rain on the South Island's West Coats and then drive 2hrs and be basking in the dry heat of the Canterbury Plains.

Understanding this diversity enables Backcountry Concepts to design tours that maximize our client's experiences. We can offer the outdoor enthusiast of hunting, fishing and hiking at any level to suit their physical capability and health. Trips can be from a few hours to several days and most priced packages include meals and accommodation. Packages can be on either the North or South Island or both depending on the game hunted or your personal preference. Packages can be personalised to suit your needs.

Experienced, professional hunting guides offering deer hunting and other trophy hunts amongst magnificent mountains in the South Island. Our 4,000acre ranch is just 15 minutes drive south of Kaikoura near Christchurch. Our luxury hunting lodge has wonderful views of both the Pacific Ocean and our bush clad valley which extends to the west and is home to red stag, fallow bucks, feral goats and wild boar. Exclusive hunting concessions to chamois and thar close by.

The New Zealand hunting season is from March to the end of August. The best time to hunt Red Stag, Wapiti (Elk) and Fallow is during the roar, which is March through to the end of May.

Tahr and Chamois are at their prime from late April until August, however can be hunted all year round.

We offer both Free & Wild hunts and Game Ranch hunts. If you wish to hunt Free & Wild I would advise that you budget on 5 days hunting minimum. This type of hunting requires a good level of fitness.

Access to remote areas that we hunt is either by Helicopter or 4WD.
