Hokitika is an historical seaside town on the West Coast of New Zealand&8217s South Island. Hokitika is conveniently located as an over night stop, or base, for exploring this beautiful and dramatic region.

As an overnight stop Hokitika is approximately 5 hours drive from Picton, Nelson, Kaikoura, Wanaka, Marahau and Akaroa, also from Christchurch if travelling via Punakaiki Pancake Rocks (3 hours direct from Christchurch).

Those overnighting in Hokitika have several high quality restauarants and cafes to choose from, sunsets at the beach and the opportunity to visit New Zealand&8217s largest collection of glow &8211 worms (outside of a cave system), after dark and they&8217re free!! A wide range of craft galleries where artists can be seen working in all mediums including local greenstone (jade) and gold, can be visited. All are within a short distance of Teichelmann&8217s.

Are you looking for an adventure of mystery, romance & intrique! How about floating through a galaxy world of glowworms on subterranean lakes, experiencing the splendour and roar as you slide down underground waterfalls or taking a cuddle through the love tunnel! Discover enchanting limestone formations in this Castle of the Underworld. This is an adventure that is fun, exciting, has some personal challenge along with a touch of environmental knowledge. Who knows, you may even meet one of the Taniwhas that Maori legend says live in the underworld, you will certainly find about them! Would you like to finish up with a relaxing hot shower and spa with a hot drink and a snack afterwards? Yes! Then this trip is for you. Our cave rafting ( we are actually on tubes and not rafts!) adventure is flexible and can provide as much or as little challenge as you are comfortable with as there are various ways to go through the cave system. Every trip is different depending on who is on them so they can suit all abilities and ages down to as young as 8 years. As your adventure is also based on the South Island"s West Coast there are no crowds and no time limits. Team Building, educational objectives or leadership skills can be included for groups.
The trip is in a wild, natural cave and has different floating sections on tubes across flat, slow moving water done in the dark to the light of a galaxy of glowworms in the roof. Your adventure with us is one of intrigue, anticipation and even a touch of romance. In between the floating sections you can do things like slide down an underground waterfall, cuddle through the Love Tunnel or ride the" Wild West Big Wet & Greasy"! A 100 foot natural rock hydroslide. People are able to choose to do what they want, some do everything while others just do what they are comfortable with as everything is optional.
