One and a half hours from Dallas, or from Shreveport, this part of Texas features towering pines, green pastures and woods, and a slower pace of living than other areas. Grand Saline, 12 miles away, came into being as a salt mining town while Van, three miles away, has a cotton growing/oil production history. Canton has a growing reputation as home of First Monday Trade Days, one of the largest flea markets in the world, where if you can't find it, it probably doesn't exist.
