This area of France is known for two reasons1 it is near all the important art and cultural centers of France, Aix En Provence,(Opera), Avignon Dance, theater and Music, Arles Center of Photography, etc.2 It has the cleanest air in Europe, the area Haute Provence is the center of lavender, Honey and fruit. There are so many beautiful places to visit from Franciscan monastery "Ganagobi", which can be reached by an ancient Roman Road from the Classe town of Lurs with it's small Roman Amphitheater to the village of Moustier high up "les Gorges du Verdon" the French Grand Canyon. You will arrive in Marseilles and the first thing you will see is the St. Victoire Mountain , you can drive to Arles and on the way see all the fields that Van Gogh painted, and of course within 100 miles you have the Mediteranee. If you want to just rest , read walk, bicycle around eat great food and relax, you don't have to leave Forcalquier just stay put, it has everything to keep you happy, great restaurants a huge market day every Monday where the whole town becomes a market with local products.
