And just south of Brisbane (1hr drive), you have the Gold Coast. Not quite as old as Brisbane, but still a fantastic place to take a break with some fun learning experiences of its own (i.e. Ripley's believe it or not = very quirky fun facts).

To get the most out of your trip, I really recommend planning it ahead on a site like eplanner dot com to make sure that you manage to fit everything in and don't miss anything out by not knowing whats available.

While not so cultural, if you do visit the Gold Coast, one fantastic thing to learn is how to surf :). There are over 50km of beaches and heaps of surfing schools with short 1 day lessons to multi-day lessons.
