Red Carabao

Looking for a place to rest after a long and arduous walk in the heat of Manila? Red Carabao is your place. Opened in July 2009, Manila's newest, modern, alternative, self-service hostel is located in a quiet, clean, safe & peaceful neighborhood outside the Main Gate of the historic Chinese Cemetery in Santa Cruz district of Manila, just north of Malate. Away from the 'sensuous' (and sketchy) red light district, but within easy & close reach of everything Manila has to offer, it's the only hostel next to an LRT station- your cheap, fast, green, and convenient way to reach essentially all of Metro Manila. (Believe us, you don't want to roam the neon-lit Malate/Ermita area, notorious among locals for cheap, dirty nightlife. The Tomas Morato/Timog neighborhoods is where real clubs are at-- and we're closest to it! Google it.)


In addition to squeaky-clean bathrooms, fresh linens, free internet, a modern kitchen, and eco standards, Red Carabao is above all, every guest's home away from home. And it is a home on a mission, promoting everything Filipino and contributing 10% of all our proceeds to charities in Manila.

So if your goal isn't to explore shady bars, we're your honest-to-goodness best choice. Our rates, the free amenities, and the LRT will save you time, money, and even your Manila trip altogether (from unwanted pain and regret). Not to mention, the crowd here is much, much cooler than, say, other hostels lacking a common lounge.

HOW TO REACH US.

1) BY LRT (cheapest, fastest, most reliable, recommended):
From the airport, take a taxi to the LRT-1 BACLARAN Station and head 20 minutes north to ABAD SANTOS Station for only P15. Then below the station, take a tricycle to the 'Main Gate of Chinese Cemetery' at the end of Felix Huertas Street (In Filipino: 'Sa dulo ng Felix Huertas, malapit sa Chinese Cemetery'), for P20. We are 5 houses from the Main Gate in the tallest white building on the block. Cost: approx. P75.

2) BY CAB (convenient only if with more than a backpack):
From the Manila International Airport, direct the driver to the 'Chinese Cemetery near the Chinese General Hospital in Santa Cruz' (In Filipino: 'Sa Sementeryo ng Intsik malapit sa CGH sa Santa Cruz'). The 6-km ride should take you north along Roxas Boulevard by the Manila Bay, then past the City Hall, National Museum, & Quiapo Church. Once by the hospital, have the driver take you to the Main Gate of the Chinese Cemetery on Felix Huertas Street (cross street: Aurora). Our 7-storey white building is impossible to miss. Fare should be around P350 in moderate traffic. Email us for exact directions.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU BOOK:

Red Carabao is a hostel for international backpackers. Unfortunately we don't accept bookings by Philippine nationals anymore. Reservations made by Philippine nationals will be deemed void. Also our facility also does not allow us to welcome guests under 16. And we have the nerves to say: absolutely no sex tourists. It violates our laws and the dignity of our countrymen.

Directions

BY LRT (cheap, fast, green & very, very convenient):
From the Manila International Airport, take a taxi to the BACLARAN LRT Station for 90 pesos or a Baclaran-bound Jeepney for 7 pesos. On the LRT, head north to the ABAD SANTOS LRT Station for 15 pesos then take a tricycle to the 'Chinese Cemetery South Gate on Felix Huertas Street' for 20 pesos. Our number is 2819, the 7-storey white building named 'Chateau' across a pink house.

BY TAXI (convenient only if carrying suitcases):
From the airport, direct the driver to the 'Main Gate of the Chinese Cemetery near the Chinese General Hospital' in Santa Cruz. Give the following directions:

- Drive north on Roxas Boulevard (along Manila Bay)
- Right on Padre Burgos (past the City Hall on right)
- Cross Quezon Bridge down Quezon Ave (Quiapo Church on left)
- Right on Laong-Laan
- Left on Dimasalang (over a bridge)
- Left on Blumentritt (Chinese Hospital on right)
- Right on Aurora (corner Security Bank)
- Right on Felix Huertas (Abacon Computer Cafe on right)

Alternate route:
- Drive north on Roxas Boulevard (along Manila Bay)
- Right on Padre Burgos (past the City Hall on right)
- Cross McArthur Bridge down Rizal Avenue (following the LRT-1)
- Right on Pampanga
- Left on Felix Huertas (past Aurora Blvd)

The 6-km ride will take you north along Manila Bay then past the City Hall, National Museum, & Quiapo Church. We are 5 houses down from the South Gate of the Chinese Cemetery in Santa Cruz district of Manila. Our 7-storey white building is impossible to miss. Our address is 2819 Felix Huertas Street, Santa Cruz, Manila. Cross street: Aurora. Cost: from P400. Email us for tips and advice on taking a taxi. Fares over P400 should be reported, so wait for us at the door before paying driver.
