Altes Berghaus Hotel

Our house is situated directly next to the forest in a particularly beautiful and extremely idyllic and charming part of the Wiehengebirge the Bad Essen hills, in the middle of the TERRA.vita nature park in the Osnabrueck and Varus region.
The well-known Wittekindsweg ( a walking trail travelled by many) runs directly past our hotel.

The surrounding forest and countryside is very appealing to nature lovers and it is the perfect place for walkers, bicycle-riders and families.
Our front garden has a play area for children with a swing, trampoline and slide.
Companies and clubs can hold meetings, seminars, reunions or training courses away from the bustle of the town.

The very beautiful beer- and cafegarden under old trees tempts the guest to stay a while and relax.

Our comfortable guestrooms are all equipped with a separate shower. toilet and some have SAT-TV.

In our cosy restaurant and bar we offer specialities of the region such as venison and other game. Other popular dishes include local trout, and various grilled dishes and steaks. Another house speciality is our delicious homemade cakes, cream gateau and flans.
We also offer a wide variety of seasonal specialities.
We provide diverse and typical German food for a fair price, always using local and fresh products.

Not far away there are several interesting places of interest such as the nearby observation tower and the watermill, the famous Dinosaur footprints, the classic car museum and observatory in Melle, the excavation and archaeological site of the famous Varus battle (between Arminius and the Romans), and the old diocesan town of Osnabrueck where there are several beautiful churches and interesting museums.
The Osnabrueck Zoo is also very popular. Approx. 30 km away is the cloth-making museum in Bramsche.

Sport and leisure activities in Bad Essen include walking and bicycle-riding, golf, swimming, mountain-biking, tennis.

Furthermore, in Bad Essen there is an outdoor swimming-pool
and spa and wellness houses.

We have a large private parking place and a covered area for bikes and motorbikes. We look forward to your visit.

Directions

Directions from Osnabrück main train station to Bad Essen

There are 2 bus lines which travel between Osnabrück and Bad Essen.
Bus Nr. X275 and X276.
They leave Osnabrück at 20 past each full hour.
Total travelling time to the Altes Berghaus is approx. 40-45 Minutes.
Sometimes it is necessary to change in Ostercappeln but one can catch a connecting bus at 5 minutes before each full hour,
One then arrives at Bad Essen main Post office.
From here it is about 15 minutes walk to the Hotel.
The Altes Berghaus Hotel is approx. 2.5 km outside the village of Bad Essen.
Otherwise one can take a taxi for about Euro 6,-

Alternatively you can take a train from Osnabrück to Bohmte
(about 12 minutes away).
Buses leave from there to Bad Essen once an hour and the journey takes
approx. 10 minutes.
A Taxi from Bohmte train station to the Altes Berghaus costs about Euro 15,-
