Hi-mt. Edith Cavell

**IMPORTANT - HI-Edith Cavell will be closed as of September 7th, 2009 due to road maintenance work. We will be open again in the Summer of 2010. Sorry for the inconvenience.**

The 3,363-metre peak of Mt. Edith Cavell towers over our little hostel set in a narrow valley below this spectacular setting. Aside from easy access to breath-taking views of the Angel Glacier and the Cavell Meadows, HI-Mount Edith Cavell is the perfect base to start backcountry hikes into the Tonquin Valley.

This is a wilderness hostel with limited creature comforts - no running water, no showers, and no flush toilets. We do have purified water for cooking, a refrigerator, propane stoves and lights.

It is important to note that in the winter (Oct to May) the ROAD UP TO THE HOSTEL IS CLOSED, guests will be required to hike, ski, or snowshoe up to the hostel from the highway. *approx 11km*


**NOTE - Due to the wilderness location, accessibility for the physically disabled is challenging (call for further details) Credit Card needed when making reservations. Due to lack of direct/reliable communication with the Wilderness Hostels the Central Reservation Office is not able to make same day arrival reservations - walk in basis only. 48 hours individual cancellation - at all wilderness hostels. Book ahead to avoid any disappointment. As these smaller hostels are very popular both winter and summer.

A word on HI-Wilderness Hostels

Directions

Car Directions: HI-Mount Edith Cavell is located approximately 23 km south of the Jasper townsite. Travel 7 km south of Jasper on Highway 93 and turn right onto Highway 93A. Travel 5.4 km and turn right onto the Cavell Road. Follow the road 11 km to hostel (on left). The road is narrow and has tight switchbacks that are unsuitable for trailers (drop-off area at the start) and large motor-homes.

The road closes during winter. Groups or individuals may ski or snowshoe up the road to access the hostel in the winter.
