Description - Casa Agua Canela

Casa Agua Canela: Image # 1 - Casa Agua Canela - quito ecuador youth hostels quito

This casa invites you to share the local family atmosphere that provides visitors with a rich cultural perspective of Ecuador. Located close to the main entertainment and tourist mecca, the Mariscal district, but yet provides a peaceful neighborhood for those who want a little peace of mind. Our house offers much in the way of making your experience in Quito, Ecuador a remarkable and impressive time with memories to share with newfound friends in this sociable environment.

In 1932, Tomas Mullo constructed a house on the yet undeveloped area of Quito. The design incorporated the influence of the post-Italian architecture of the neoclassic style with a fascinating twist of Ecuadorian elegance. In the 1940’s, Tomas bestowed this house to his son Raphael Mullo who still maintains the Mullo patriarch and is still very much present and nearby for anyone who would like to share some stories of Quito Colonial.

Casa Agua Canela: Image # 2 - Casa Agua Canela - quito ecuador youth hostels quitoThe “Municipio Metropolitano de Quito” announced that the house is a historic building that cannot be changed from the original style, as most buildings face in Old Town Quito.

The Mullo family has lived in this neighborhood for many years and plenty of people know the grandfather, Raphael, through his little school supply store that is attached to one part of the house. Maria de Lourdes Dillon, often referred to as Luly, is the daughter of Raphael Mullo and Helena Sandoval. Luly has worked for the Hilton Colon for many years and is a dedicated individual to hospitality. She is a wonderful woman who invites many people to partake in family activities. Also for those who want independence, she also provides an atmosphere of choice as to how one wants to create their experience. She lends on open ear and an impeccable amount of knowledge concerning events in Quito. Her son David attends a local university, studying Culinary Arts, which is wonderful for those would like him to cook up anything from a French pastry to ceviche. Her other son Andres lives in the United States with his wife, studying Business Administration and is very dearly missed in the house. Essentially this house is full of family activities but allows individuals their freedom and privacy that makes for a wonderful experience in Ecuador. Also, one can have a great conversation on the terrace, in trance of tiki lights, listening to others from all over the world. People have stayed from Germany, Brazil, Poland, Spain, Holland, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Peru, England, France, and the list goes on.

Directions

We are located near the Santa Clara de San Millan park, approximately a 10 minute walking distance to the Mariscal and a five minute trolley ride to the “Centro”. Our house is five blocks east of Amazonas Avenue and one block east from the main street 10 de Agosto.

The transportation to anywhere at anytime is very convenient. The two most important universities, Universidad Central and Universidad Catolica, are just a few blocks away along with the internationally renowned “Casa de Cultura”.

There are many mini-food stores in the neighborhood of national and imported products. There are hospitals, parks, bookstores, movies, post office and many Internet locations frequented by Ecuadorians. For the most part, the most important aspect of this neighborhood is that many Ecuadorian families live there, offering security and confidence to those who visit.
