Radeka Downunder Underground Backpackers Inn & Underground Motel is in Coober Pedy, Outback South Australia. Coober Pedy is known as 'The Opal Capital of the World'.
Radekas accommodation is unique because instead of going up floors to your lodgings, you go 6.5m deep down in the earth to sleep.
Originally an Opal Mine from 1960 it was transformed into an accommodation outlet for travellers to escape the extreme weather conditions on the surface. During Summer the temperature outside can reach 45c while Underground we stay constantly at 28c. In Winter the nights can be 2c while Underground it is 22c.
We are in the centre of Coober Pedy within walking distance of all points of interest and run a daily 4 hour tour of the Opal Fields and Breakaways Scenic Reserve + a nightly Star Gazing Presentation - a 1 Hour fun and educational activity for any age or nationality.
