Description
The Hotel Posada La Basilica was originally built in the early 1700*s as the private hacienda of a Spanish Nobleman. It was converted into a hotel in 1942. The Posada is the most pleasant, small, well-situated hotel in Patzcuaro. The Posada offers extraordinary views of the town, with its colorful red tile roofs and church towers, and Lake Patzcuaro. In front of the hotel, across a small intimate square and gardens, stands the Basilica Maria Inmaculada De La Salud, one of the most interesting and beautiful churches in Mexico, begun by Don Vasco de Quiroga during the mid-16th century. The Posada offers twelve large, tranquil, comfortably appointed rooms, with television and fireplaces. A central patio and terrace, dining room, and upstairs mirador lounge offer not only spacious views, but also a light and air environment for social as well as business meetings and very special romantics dinners. The friendly hotel staff and owners are pleased to furnish pleasant Mexican hospitality and helpful tourist ideas assistance. The Posada restaurant, Tekare (look out in the local Purepeche Indian language) provides a full delicious breakfast menu as well a variety of Michoacan luncheon regional dishes which include the famous and tasty white fish of Patzcuaro.
