The Desert Cave Hotel is the world's only underground international hotel - located at Coober Pedy in outback South Australia, approximately one mile from Old Timer's Mine. Coober Pedy is 530 miles (850kms) North of Adelaide or a 2.5-hour flight and 425 miles (680kms) South of Alice Springs. Since 1915, Coober Pedy has lured those who seek the elusive opal found in this vast outback semi-desert area. Property amenities include the underground shops, swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, gym, underground bar, Umberto's Restaurant, Crystal Cafe, opal display areas, and Opal World (with a range of opal and opal jewelry). The hotel also offers room service, babysitting, coin-operated Internet kiosks (in the reception area and underground bar), coin-operated laundry facilities, business services, and parking.
