Sleepy Hollow Adventure Backpackers is perfectly located in the University section of the city, within walking distance of the shops, nightclubs and the town centre. Sleepy Hollow is a cosy and intimate Backpackers with large communal areas for relaxing. Our kitchen is fully kitted, free tea and coffee is available all day. Wholesome, healthy meals are available for breakfast and dinner at reasonable cost.


Sleepy Hollow caters especially for sports people and Adventure Backpackers, and is bike friendly. From Pietermaritzburg center:
• With the Tourist Information by the City Hall on your left, proceed down Chief Albert Luthuli Street.
• Pass the cemeteries.
• Cross the Msunduzi River.
• Cross the traffic lights by the Sasol garage.
• Turn rights at the next set of traffic lights into Leinster Road.
• For cars, take the first road on your right, Birkett Road, we are the second driveway on the left.
• For pedestrians, the Backpacker’s is on the right side of Leinster Road.
From Durban:
• Take the N3 from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
• Take the Alan Paton Avenue Off-ramp.
• Turn left at the fourth set of traffic lights into Leinster Road.
• For cars, take the first road on your right, Birkett Road, we are the second driveway on the left.
• For pedestrians, the Backpacker’s is on the right side of Leinster Road.
From Johannesburg:
• Take the N3 from Johannesburg to Pietermaritzburg.
• Take the New England Road Off-ramp.
• Turn right and cross the bridge over the freeway and drive straight through the on-ramps traffic lights.
• At the third traffic light turn left (intersection of Woodhouse Road, Surrey Road and Boshoff Road).
• At these traffic lights cross directly over (at a light angle).
• For cars, take the first road on your right, Birkett Road, we are the second driveway on the left.
• For pedestrians, the backpackers are on the right side of Leinster Road.
