Casa Zanzibar

Located 45 minutes by car from Lisbon Airport.
This is not a suitable hotel for parents with babies and young children.

Casa Zanzibar is a Country Villa which offers a unique living space in the region. It is the result of crossing cultures between the love for beautiful alentejano handicrafts together with handicrafts from oriental parts of Africa, all flavoured with a Mediterranean touch.

Casa Zanzibar offers 6 double rooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. Each room enjoys: individually operated air-conditioning or heating (according to the season), multilingual satellite TV and personal safe.

Nº1 Room:
The Blue Lagoon room or 'Bahari' room, offers a unique blend of wall tiles (azulejos) and curtains to recreate the colours of the Indian Ocean. A harmony of blue and terracotta shades with a touch of exotic furniture and Alentejo ceramics. View upon the terrace garden.


Nº2 Room:
The Princess room or 'Binti Mfalme' room, offers a unique blend of Art Nouveau wall tiles (azulejos) and 50's furniture with classical and exotic decoration. Curiosity: a 'Bantu princess' bercing her baby wishes you good night. View upon the garden terrace.

Nº3 Room:
The Savannah room: through the dusty green and brown of the African planes, unexpected flowers bloom. The Rothshield giraffe, the elephants, the Azulejos ceramics lamps give a taste of the Safari time. View upon the terrace garden.

Nº4 Room named:
Zanzibar or House of Wonder / 'Beit-el-Ajaib', presents the colours of blue and grey: the coolness of the lapislazuli tiles, the lotus brodery and the shining multicolored silk of the curtains. A tipically Zanzibari mixture of decoration with colonial, Indian and African flavour. View upon the terrace garden.

Nº5 Room is the Turquoise room or 'Feruzi' room, and it has a subtle blend of soft colours and a harmony of grey-turquoise with cream. You will also admire the touch of exotic furniture and curtains. View upon the terrace garden.

Nº6 Room is the Primavera-Butterflies room or 'Vuli' room:
light blue wall tiles (azulejos) like the clouds before the spring's rains. Butterflies and flowers everywhere, African bamboo furniture. It is on the whole a very smiley room. View upon the terrace garden (this room is also suitable for disabled guests, provided he/she is accompanied).

Casa Zanzibar is located in a strategic position at the entrance of Alentejo, in a region called the hidden treasures of Portugal.

Casa Zanzibar functions as a Bed and Breakfast establishment for adults. There are no kitchen facilities neither are facilities for babies.

Dinner can be served, if requested in advance.
The cost for dinner is EUR 18 per person excluding drinks.
There is an IVA tax of 12% added to the price of the meal and also to the drinks.
The Casa Zanzibar international meal generally includes:
- Special Gourmet Entry
- Pasta with different sauces
- Meat with potatoes and or rice
- Desert
- Tea or coffea

Furthermore, cold drinks can be bought at any time of the day.

Clients are kindly requested to inform Casa Zanzibar of their approximate time of arrival, especially after 8pm (20.00 h)

Payment for the stay will be requested at the check-in.
It is preferable to pay in cash (Euros).
But there also credit card facilities, such as American Express and VISA.

Cancellation must be done at least 48 hours before arrival, otherwise, client will have to pay the equivalent of 1 night stay.

Horse-riding courses can be booked, if requested in advance.

Directions

Casa Zanzibar is strategically placed at only 45 minutes from Lisbon Airport.
To come out of Lisbon and to move everywhere in Portugal, the best option is to have a car, since the public transport outside Lisbon and Porto could be slow and not always cheap. Nevertheless, according to your budget, there are various ways to go to Casa Zanzibar:

OPTION A:
From Lisbon to Casa Zanzibar by car or taxi:
-Take exit toward A12 / Ponte Vasco da Gama
-Take exit toward N10 / Marateca
- Merge onto N10 via the ramp to Pegões/Évora /N4.
Then look for the sign: 'LANDEIRA', turn right, go straight down approximately 2km and turn left when you see the sign: 'NICOLAUS' on your left. Drive down about 400 metres and you will enter in ' NICOLAUS'. Look on your right side and you will see a big house with a swimming-pool in front: this is Casa Zanzibar. A taxi from Lisbon may cost you between 80 and 100 Euros.

OPTION B:
you may take a bus from 'ESTAÇÃO ORIENTE' or also known as: 'GARE DO ORIENTE' to Setúbal, and then take a taxi to NICOLAUS. The bus will take approx. 35 minutes to Setúbal city and will cost you approx. 10 Euros (one way). You can buy the ticket when entering in the bus, and the taxi will cost you approx. 50 Euros.

OPTION C:
you may take the TRAIN ( this is the most economic choice) from the 'GARE DO ORIENTE' to the city of 'VENDAS NOVAS'. Then, take a taxi from Vendas Novas to Nicolaus.
The cost of a train return ticket will be about 18 Euros.
Taking a taxi from Vendas Novas to Nicolaus, will cost you approx 25. If you decide to take this option, note that when you come out of the train, you will have to walk down till the end of the road and then turn right. Walk straight down, and nearly at the end of this road, there is a taxi station: it is not too far from the train station (10 minutes walk).
If you would like to have someone to pick you up directly from the train station. Please let us know in advance so that we can book a transport for you.
