Ichiensou Guesthouse

IchiEnSou was renovated in late 2007 to make your stay as comfortable as possible and yet retain the original features of the original house which was built during the 1920’s. We have both a 4 bed female dormitory and a 6 bed dormitory.

IchiEnSou is located in an idyllic location, one street off the main street in Gion, which is near both the city centre and numerous famous temples and shrines.

We are very pleased to help you plan your time in Kyoto and make your stay as memorable experience as possible while at IchiEnSou.


Please note:
We very much appreciate if you could write your arrival time as much accurate as possible when you make your booking. Since the guesthouse is operated by one person, it is difficult to be at the reception all the time. We decide when to go out for shopping or dinner according to the information you provide.

If you come much earlier or later than what you write, please give us a call or email us in advance.

Check-in time is any time after 16:00.
However, if you would like to come earlier than the check-in time to drop your luggage, please do not hesitate to come by. We are happy to keep your luggage at the reception until you come back again for the check-in.

Directions

If you carry a backpack or minimum luggage, take a JR Nara line train to Tofukuji, the first stop from Kyoto station. Transfer to Keihan line at Tofukuji and take a train bounded for Demachiyanagi. Get off at Gion Shijo and walk out of the exit #6. The building you came just came out from is Minamiza theater. If you carry a large heavy luggage, plese see another option to get to the theater below.

To get to the guesthouse from Minamiza theater, walk one block to the east (walk away from the river) along Shijo street (main street) and turn right at the first traffic light. You will see a large white lantern hanging outside a building on your left hand side as you walk south for one block (45 secs) from the traffic light. And just after walking pass the lantern, there is a narrow street (first street from Shijo street, 5 meters after the white lantern) on your left hand side. Walk in to the street for 10meters from the corner and you will see a small sign on a piece of wood on the black gate of the guesthouse on your left hand side. Please walk in to the passageway and you will find yourself finally arriving at the guesthouse!!

If you have a heavy suitcase, take a bus #5 or #205 from Kyoto station and get off at Shijo Kawaramachi (7th stop for #5 and 6th stop for #205) . Walk back about 15m to the main intersection of the two busy roads, Shijo and Kawaramachi. From the intersection, walk towards Kamo river along Shijo street and after crossing the bridge, you will see the theater over the traffic light.The guesthouse is located near 'Minamiza', a theater on the roads of Kawabata street and Shijo street (It is a 2 minute walk from the theater to the guesthouse).



If you found it difficult to get to the guesthouse, please give us a call from a public telephone outside the theater. Since it takes only 2 minutes for us to go and meet up with you at the theater from the guesthouse, we are more than happy to do so. Please do not hesitate to call us.
