The Jade Emu International Guest House

Built in 2008, the Jade Emu International Guest House is run by Dave (from Australia) and his partner Song (from China). It caters for the 'budget conscious' traveller looking for rooms and facilities of a more international class. Double, twin/triple share and dorm rooms available - all are modern, clean and comfortable. Staying here, you'll be relaxed and ready to explore the ancient and natural wonders in this beautiful area of China.

Located just 1 minute from the West wall of Dali Old Town and 5 minutes walk to the centre of town, the Jade Emu International Guest House is conveniently located.

Guest House highlights include a beautiful spacious courtyard, quality pool table, Outdoor Home Theatre System playing video music, satellite TV (with English channels) and a bar with a wide selection of beers, wine and spirits.


Security lockers (including dorms) have power inside. Kettles, towels, soap and shampoo provided in all rooms.

Chinese Directions for the taxi driver...

大理古 城西门 村十组 ( 红龙井 城 门斜对 面西北 五十米 ‘ 荣升钢 门窗制 作中心 ’ 后排 )

From Xiaguan Bus Station:

Expect to pay 40 RMB for a taxi to the Jade Emu International Guest House. The taxi driver will not use a meter to get to Dali Old Town. This is the standard rate for locals as well.
Alternatively, for those on a tight budget... Catch a taxi to the No.4 bus terminal ( 四路汽 车站 ). It should cost 5 RMB. From there buses leave every 5-10 minutes. The fare is 1.5 RMB. Get off at the 'Red Dragon Well' stop in Dali Old Town ( 红龙井). This is one stop after the bus enters the small South Gate of Dali Old Town. Walk upstream (a waterway runs down the pathway) until you reach the Red Dragon Well Gate on the West Wall of Dali Old Town (approximately 3 mins walk). Pass through it and cross the Highway, walk right 30m and turn left at the small road. You should see a Jade Emu Guesthouse sign on your left. 50m up this road, turn right. You will see the Jade Emu International Guesthouse entrance...

From Xiaguan Train Station:

Catch the No.8 Bus outside the train station. The fare is 1.5 RMB. Get off at the West Gate in Dali Old Town (approximately 30 minutes on the bus. It is the last stop). From the West Gate, cross the highway and turn left along the highway. You're going the right way if you pass the transit police building. Walk about 500m until you see the Jade Emu International Guesthouse sign on a wall and turn right up a small street (you will also see the West Wall beginning 30m ahead of you on the other side of the highway). 50m up this small road, turn right and you will see the Jade Emu entrance...

From LiJiang

The 'Lijiang Express' bus service is recommended as it will drop you off near the West Gate of Dali Old Town (only 300m away from us). Other services will probably drop you off at the East Gate and require a taxi to get here. Be sure to tell the driver you want to get off at Dali Old Town or otherwise you might find yourself in XiaGuan (Dali New City).


From Dali Old Town

Some mini-buses from Kunming and Lijiang will drop you off in Dali Old Town at various locations. With the map in hand it is an easy walk to the Guest House. If it's been a long day and your backpack/luggage is too heavy, a local taxi will drive you to the Guest House for 10 RMB.

From Dali Airport

A Taxi from the airport will cost 80-100 RMB to the Jade Emu International Guest House

An important note about taxi drivers...

Some drivers may try to tell you a range of stories such as 'The Jade Emu no longer exists' or 'The Jade Emu is in a dangerous area of Dali'. They do this in an attempt to take you to a less reputable guesthouse that pays them commission to take you there. Our advice in this situation is to find another driver.
