Surf School Itacare

Learn to surf in Brazil!! Or if you already know how, improve your technique with world class surfing, expert instruction, white sand beaches and the ever famous vibrant Brazilian culture!

Travel to Itacare, Brazil, a small but lively and colorful fishing village full of friendly locals and surrounded by rainforests and take advantage of superb breaks for all levels of surfing, even if you’ve never touched a surfboard!

The teaching program

Our Brazilian Surf School was founded in 1997 and it’s based on the official teaching program of the Australian Surfriding Association but has, through the years, developed its own unique teaching program in which we have carefully analyzed each technique involved in the sport of surfing and then organized each technique into easy to learn single steps. We use “real time” communication, meaning your instructors are surfing right along with you (almost like surfing with friends rather than a lesson) to give you tips and encourage you. But not only that, the instructors are equipped with aquatic transmitter radios so that they can communicate with one another and give feedback for students from afar.
Video coaching sessions help you to fine tune your skills. The teaching technique is organized and structured but the instructor to student ratio is 1:3 and so we are also flexible, relaxed and try to tailor to each individual as much as possible and adapt to the specific levels of each student.
Beginners will learn to surf in a way that will help you avoid the frustration that many beginning surfers deal with their first days in the water. You will learn to understand surfing etiquette, which is important in crowded surf spots, sea condition and appraisal, all the techniques for surfing from controlled wipe outs to turns to standing up, as well as how to take care of your board and waxing.
Intermediate and advanced surfers will optimize their techniques, develop their style and challenge their performance with a wide variety of breaks and some of the best surfing in Brazil.
Each day consists of 2 daily lessons (except on Sundays which are used for resting) and there are also optional evening workshops which are very informal.

In your off time, you can enjoy a capoeira lesson, mountain bike, kayak or just relax around the pool or in town with the locals. If its surfing and relaxing you need, this is the place for you

Sleeping and meals

Pousada Girasol

Surrounded by the serenity of Pousada´s beautiful garden ( where breakfast is served daily with fresh Brazilian specialties) and the ocean breeze, you´ll find your stay at Pousada Girassol very calming. Each room has it´s own veranda equipped with a hammock. Other amenities include a private bath, refrigerator, and tv. The ground floor rooms have air conditioning while the upstairs rooms are provided with a fan to work in combination with the constant sea breeze. Ultra clean and roomy, each room is decorated with it´s own individuality using a Brazilian flair.

If it´s a beach vacation you are looking for, Pousada Girassol is the perfect escape. Located at Praia da Concha, the only beach that you can actually swim at in Itacare´, the atmosphere is perfect for hanging out and taking in the sun, having a cold beer and some fresh seafood at one of the many beach huts located here. It´s also only 5 minutes walk from the town center.
