Juniper Cottage

Juniper Cottage (Boróka Vendégház in Hungarian) is a traditional whitewashed country cottage in the village of Tornaszentándrás in the hills of north-east Hungary. It is a peaceful and relaxing place, great for bike rides, walks and cave visits in the nearby World Heritage site Aggtelek National Park.

The village is a 60km train ride away from Miskolc, Hungary's third largest city, and 240km (five hours) by rail north-east of Budapest. The cottage has two large bedrooms, each with one double and one single bed, plus a dining room with a bed setee, a kitchen and a shower room and WC. Facilities include TV, DVD, blender, bread maker, oven, CD/radio and a selection of books, CDs and DVDs. There is free internet access in the village, which has two shops.


The cottage is set in a large garden of walnut and plum trees, and you will be supplied on arrival with fresh bread, eggs, milk from the village's organic farm, local honey, goats' cheese and other village produce, including our own home grown vegetables.

We have high-quality bikes and tandems for your use, as well as baby seats, a cot and maps of the area. Your host, who lives locally, can provide information, guiding and transport around the national park, as required. You are just 6km from the border with Slovakia, and as well as a wildlife rich setting, you can enjoy trips to gorges, ice caves, wild woodland, fishing lakes and profoundly rural villages nearby.

From the capital city Budapest:

Several trains leave daily from Budapest Keleti station to Miskolc, a journey of 90 minutes. From Miskolc, a connecting local train takes you a further 60km into the Aggtelek National Park, where you will alight in the village of Komjati, and be picked up and taken to the guesthouse, just 3km away. Total distance from Budapest is 240km and the cost of the journey per adult is approximately £8 ($15US).
