Kerala Three Bedroom Houseboats

Description

Houseboats, called Kettuvallams in the local language, are a concept unique to Kerala. Converted from what were originally rice boats, these self-sufficient units cruise in the Alleppey Backwaters. A three-bedroom houseboat can accommodate up to six adults and three children sharing bed with parents, comfortably. The bedrooms have a fully functional attached bathroom with shower head. The houseboat has a sitting and dining area open on all sides to take in views. Each houseboat has a captain, engine operator, and an onboard chef. The two-bedroom houseboats are available in four categories: Budget Non-A/C; Standard Non A/C; Deluxe A/C (A/C operated only at night); and Super Deluxe A/C (A/C operated 24 hours). On the day of arrival, check-in is by noon and the journey starts from Alleppey. Note that after 6pm boats are not allowed to cruise on backwater because local fishermen spread their nets. Therefore those unable to check-in before 3pm are advised to book two nights. The boat meanders through backwaters and canals unfolding village life on both sides until it reaches the Vembanad Lake where it moors for the night and returns with sunrise next morning back to Alleppey. The tariff includes all meals on board. Maximum stay on the houseboat is two nights. The second day is usually spent exploring life in Kerala in more detail around the waterways.
