Set up more like a house than a lodge or hotel, your Zanzibar Beach House has 4 rooms, kitchen, living and dining rooms.

Imagine your own little tropical beach. Shaded makuti umbrellas. You can choose to relax with a good book or a friend, lay in the sun and do nothing, or go for a swim any time of year!

An ideal hideaway for dreamers, writers or artists, where teachers, experts and maestros are encouraged to enquire about organizing small resident courses, music or yoga seminars; retreats or family reunions.

Our child-friendly garden takes the worry out of staying at a beach venue. In addition to maintaining your privacy, the perimeter wall insures security as the beach access gate can only be opened from the inside. Palm trees, hibiscus, conifers and tropical deciduous provide shade from the equatorial Sun, and a haven for exotic sunbirds; and at night for naughty bush-babies jumping from tree to tree!


Also unofficially dubbed the “Fisherman Observation Platform,” the Sunset Deck is a great place to watch and contemplate the Indian Ocean. Its westward exposure lets you take part in the incredible solar light show every evening when the Sun literally dives into the Ocean!

The hand-sawn coconut wood floors of the Sunset Deck were just laid down in 2005, and help create a casual hangout for day or night activity. A dimmer lets you set the atmosphere, and two additional halogen lamps allow stronger light for reading. Electrical outlets for music listening equipment.
The space can be adapted to a multitude of activities, as limitless as your imagination!

Breakfast is included with your stay. This typically consists of fresh tropical fruit, toast, eggs, and either spice tea or coffee, but can also be tailored to suit your morning needs.

Our refrigerator is stocked with cold beverages, including drinking water, soft drinks, beer and wine. You needn’t worry about running out, even at night. An honor system allows you to mark your drinks as you go.

With advance notice, a house cook may be hired for lunches and dinners. Our night watchman assures round-the-clock surveillance so you can sleep easy.

Directions

8 km (5 miles) north of Stone Town, Zanzibar’s main city.

If you want a pick-up, e-mail or phone us in advance. $10 per vehicle from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ), the Port, or Town. (This is a discounted rate, just so you won't get lost, as many taxi drivers at the airport will ask for $20.)

Even if you come on your own, please remember 3 things:
1-BUBUBU, the name of this part of Zanzibar north of Town;
2-the name is Zanzibar Beach HOUSE, not 'resort' or 'hotel:' Don't expect a driver to know a place with 4 rooms.
3- Print these directions, and bring them with you.

The cheapest way (300 shillings= about 25 cents): Take the dala dala from Town (Dharajani Market) to BUBUBU, and get off one stop after the Bububu Police Station check-point, where there is a sign for Stanet School. Proceed left (towards the Ocean) on the dirt road for 250 meters straight until you see a large black and white gate. 'ZBH' is written. Ring the bell several times, and be patient. The garden is enormous and takes 2-3 minutes to cross for the gardener or watchman, who will then open the gate.
