Located exclusively on what TIME Magazine rated as the best beach in Asia, the resort is set in tropical rainforest and fruit trees behind a pristine 2 km stretch of white sand at the quirkily named Beach No. 7 on Havelock Island. Conde Nast Traveler USA edition in September 2007 stated that the beach is one of the 30 best beaches in the world.

Accommodations

The resort consists of 18 beautifully designed and environmentally sensitive cottages hidden in the tropical foliage. The resort and cottages are spread over 8 acres, thus giving you an uninterrupted feeling of nature and privacy. The barefoot philosophy propagates the use of only natural indigenous materials in the living and recreational spaces.
Living & comfort

‘Barefoot at havelock’ defines rustic luxury. The ten spacious Nicobari cottages and eight Andaman Villas are constructed mainly out of fast regenerable materials. The walls are made from bamboo or wood, the roofs from thatch, and the floors from local hardwoods. The rooms are 40 sqmt in size with large ensuite
bathrooms fitted with modern amenities. Interiors are simple but beautiful. The air-conditioned Andaman Villas additionally have large picture windows and a sky lit shower area which makes one feels closer to nature. All cottages and villas are raised off the ground in keeping with the low impact footprint. We will be adding 8 luxury Nicobari Villas in December 2008.

INDIVIDUAL ROOM DESCRIPTIONS

The ten spacious Nicobari Cottages and eight Andaman Villas are scattered amongst tropical foliage and connected by winding pathways. All are constructed from natural, re generable materials and raised on stilts - for a (literally) minimal footprint!

NAC Nicobari Cottage - The simpler, fan-cooled Nicobari Cottages are the more 'indigenous', with bamboo matting walls, local hardwood floors and palm thatch roofs. Interiors are spacious (350 sq. feet) and comfy, with Balinese teak beds (netted four-posters or twins), soft furnishings from Amara and ensuite bathrooms with hot showers. The thatched ceilings sometimes show a little sky or stars as their leaves shift in the wind; if raindrops fall, staff come and add another layer. The innovative step-ladder entrance folds back on itself, to prevent friendly wildlife from inviting themselves in!

NAC Duplex Cottage - The Duplex Cottage is ideal for families or honeymooners, with a mezzanine level bedroom and bathroom, and an upper level day-room open on three sides to the rainforest.

AC Andaman Villa - The newer, air-conditioned Andaman Villas are squarer in construction, with wood-shingled roofs and walls of Indonesian hardwood (carefully chosen to match endemic species). Interiors are more contemporary, with wide netted beds and large floor-to-ceiling windows behind sliding shutters. Bathrooms have Grohe fittings and a glass-roofed shower area with views up into the jungle.

Savour the delicious vegetarian and seafood dishes created by our chef at the main resort restaurant. Continental and Indian food are our forte and you can chose from the set menu or dine a la carte. We also have a choice of spirits and a small selection of Indian wines, to enhance your meal. Whatever you eat, you can take comfort in the knowledge that our vegetables are organically grown and fertilizer free. Sea food is fresh from the sea.

Next to the main restaurant is the Lounge. Furnished in the Indian and Oriental style, with divans and bolsters, low-level tables and aromatic candles, it is a place to sit back and relax, swap stories with other guests. Or alternatively, have a drink, breathe in the sea air and listen to one of the finest collections of jazz and lounge music to be found anywhere in the Andaman Islands.

ACTIVITIES

From February until April each year, yoga courses are taught in an open-air pavilion set on a hill high above the resort with spectacular views of the rolling canopy of forest and the aquamarine sea.

Escorted nature walks can be arranged with a days notice so that guests can enjoy walking through the forest spotting birds, butterflies, small mammals and the occasional reptile. Wild orchids, fruit and other tropical plants abound. There could be a bit of scrambling - up steep inclines, but your escort will help you negotiate the trickier sections. Easier walks can be arranged for guests with children. A splash pool at the resort is a great respite for kids after a nature walk.

Snorkelling gear is available at the resort for guests looking for a little more adventure – right outside our doorstep on Beach No. 7 or a short walk through the forest to the secluded ‘Blue Cove’. A bit further afield, an exciting ride on a local dunghi (boat) will bring you to Elephant Beach with a healthy coral reef, calm waters, and teeming with tropical reef fish – ideal for snorkelers.

If you have a mind to catch your meal, then a spot of hook and line fishing can be quite a relaxing way to do it. Guests can rent out the barefoot dunghi for a sunset fishing trip, or better still go out at night (only moonlit nights) for a memorable experience.

Deep-sea game fishing trips are available from December - April each year. Daily trips are available with professional crew and tackle having experience in local waters. Trips are available for novices and experts.
