Tasman Bay Backpackers

FREE year round delcious hot chocolate pudding & ice cream plus FREE winter BREAKFAST (May-Oct). Our hostel is family run, purpose built, spacious, very clean yet homely. Everyone says it has a nice feel to it. In winter we light the log fire every night and all the rooms have heaters.
We also supply extra duvets and hot water bottles for those that feel the cold (not that you should need it our hostel is always kept very warm).

The hostel is located just five mins walk from the main street (far enough away to avoid inner city noise but close enough that it is an easy walk to shops, cafes etc). It is a hostel which attracts a wide variety of nationalities and ages (not usually group travellers) and we try to ensure that everyone feels welcome and enjoys their stay (of course).


Outside you’ll find a well used outside hammock, swing chair and edible garden which includes herbs, grapes, kiwifruit, feijoas, lemons, ….

Our hostel provides a great place to base yourself whilst exploring the Nelson Tasman region. Everyone that works here has a lot of local knowledge and is happy to share it and book anything for you. All buses and most activity operators will pick up and/or drop off right at our front door. We can ticket buses, water taxis, kayak trips and all activities. We hire out good quality camping gear and offer advice and do bookings for any of the three National Parks in our region.

In winter time (starting May 1st) we offer FREE BREAKFAST which includes freshly baked bread. To really take the chill off winter we also offer something a bit extra each evening from hot chocolate pudding and ice cream to local beer tasting and games nights. Year round we provide free tea, coffee, sugar, milk, herbs & oil for cooking.

Also available are bikes for you to use (no charge) to explore the area. Off-street parking and free lugguage storage.

All rooms are of a good size. We have a large selection of doubles, twins, small dorms and two six share dorms. During winter we also offer double rooms at a single occupancy rate.

Directions

All buses will pick and drop off right outside our hostel.

If you have a car then as you are driving into Nelson (from Picton) you come to a roundabout. You turn left (signpost says to city centre) and then you turn the first left into Wainui St and this turns into our street - Weka Street. You will see our sign on the right hand side of the road. We have a large off-street car park.
