Desert Expedition

Typical Day

Our Desert Expedition is an exceptional journey through the Libyan Sahara, to discover the authentic Libyan lifestyle in the remote Tuareg oasis of Ghat and the rock art in the Tadrart-Akakus and Mathkhendush regions.

Programme:

Day: 1
Arrival to Tripoli airport, domestic flight to Sebha, 800 km in the south, dinner and overnight in bivouacin the sand dunes.

Day: 2
Departure on board 4WD cars to visit to Germa museum, continue to Berjuj valley, overnight in Idhan Murzug dunes.

Day: 3
Messak Settafet plateau to discover the rock art in Mathkhendush, and In Ghalgiwan sites, Passage through In Abahoha pass, overnight in Wan Kaza dunes.


Day: 4
Early morning we enter in Akakus mountain from the eastern part, Imrakka and Iminenegh water well, lunch near Afazajar monolith Arch. Overnight in Teshwinet valley.

Day: 5
Visit to Tin Khalega Arch and Tin Anniwan and Tin Asheikh caves with rock paintings. Continue to Tin Lalan and overnight in Aghahar Mallan (the white valley).

Day: 6
Awis, Adad, finger shaped monolith, lunch in Al-Awinat oasis. Afternoon continue to Aghrem N'Udadan site, bivouac.

Day: 7
Visit to Maghidet and Maghatghat forest-like rocks, Titeghsen dunes, passage by Ibulal nomad settlements overnight near the In Dinan haunted rock fortress.

Day: 8
Morning visit to Ghat old city, the neighboring oasis, camel caravan on neighboring sand dunes, evening with Tuareg tradional music show. Bivouac.

Day: 9
Departure towards the north-east by asphalt road, lunch in Irawan acacia trees valley 50 km from Ubari, overnight on sand dunes near Mahruga lake.

Day: 10
Gabaraun, Mafo,Um El-Ma and Mandara lakes, lunch and transfer to Sebha for flight to Tripoli, overnight in Aldeyafa hotel, Tripoli.

Day: 11
Visit to the Roman-Phoenician city of Leptis Magna, lunch near the site and return to Tripoli hotel. Evening city sight-seeing.

Day: 12
Transfer to airport for departure.
