Cat And Moose Backpackers Lodge

Established in 1995, we are housed in a historical building built in 1792, one of the original Central Cape Town dwellings. Our charming building is set against the backdrop of the majestic Table Mountain and encloses a leafy, sunny and private courtyard with splash-pool.

The Cat & Moose is within walking distance from the train station and central bus terminus. We neighbour the famous Turkish Baths and early 20th century historical indoor swimming pool. Historical Dutch Company Gardens, South African Museum, Planetarium, National Gallery and Holocaust Museum are all a block away.

Services you need such as a 24 hour convenient store, supermarkets, bars, a variety of restaurants and shopping malls are all within five minutes walk. This is a safe area within City Improvement District. We also provide an overnight Security Guard.


We are open 24/7 each day of the year. Reception is open 7am-10pm where you can also obtain travel information, and make tour bookings. We offer keyless entry with security access code. Aside from the facilities below we have a large TV lounge, separate movie/game lounge, pool table, and large balcony overlooking Long Street with a vibrant nightlife and trendy restaurants, bars and lounges. Furthermore travel agencies and bicycle and surfboard hire outlets are situated right next to us.

Directions

We are a Baz Bus Stop. Train Station or Inter City-liner Bus terminal is in the same complex righ in the City Centre, 15 min walk or about R 20 by Taxi waiting outside arrival point.. When arriving by plane, cheapest way to Cape Town City Centre is by Backpackers Shuttle, contact upon request, cost from R 200 . Also there are taxis waiting outside Airport Arrivals as well, their charge is negotiable and starts at R 160. Taxis booked at info kiosks inside Arrivals will be more expensive, from R 200.

Cat & Moose Backpackers is situated in a 18th Century building on Long Street. You will find us on the left hand side just before the historical Turkish Bath and Swimming Pool Complex on the upper end of Long Street.

By car
If you arrive from either the N1 or N2 highways you go straight into Buitengracht Street. Turn Left / coming from N1/ or turn Right/ coming from N2/ into Strand Street and thent again into Long Street/ towards the Table Mountain/and drive until you see Cat & Moose on your left hand side, orange one storey building No.305 Long Street.

By airplane
If you arrive at the airport of Cape Town, call us for assistance or ask at info/directions at the Cape Tourism Kiosk.
