New Excelsior Backpackers

The popular New Excelsior Backpacker is located in an enchanting historic building right in the heart of Christchurch’s new urban hub, the High Street shopping and entertainment lanes.
This hostel offers an warm and friendly environment with all the benefits of an inner-city location. It is nestled amongst popular bars, cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping, and is only minutes walk to Cathedral Square, the arts centre, museum and art gallery, public transportation, movie theatres and supermarkets.
All our spotlessly clean rooms are non-smoking. 24-hour check-in can be arranged upon demand, and guests have 24-hour key access to the hostel.
We are small enough to provide a relaxing and comfortable stay, yet large enough to boast some great facilities. The New Excelsior has a large kitchen and dining room, and a comfortable lounge room with a big screen tv, free videos and DVDs. We offer a guest laundry, secure bike lock-up, book exchange, free linen, 24-hr fast internet access and free luggage storage.
There is a free barbeque available for use on our large outdoor sun deck – perfect for socialising with friends! Start your day by heading downstairs to the neighbouring cafe for a lazy breakfast and cappuchino. Later on, you can enjoy a few drinks at the New Excelsior Sports Bar.

Directions

The New Excelsior Backpackers is situated in the centre of Christchurch city.

From the airport, catch a shuttle bus for only NZ$15pp. These shuttles run 24 hours a day and will deliver to the door.

If your budget is tight, the City-Airport Flyer Bus will drop you at the Bus Exchange (only 2 mins walk from us) for NZ$7. When getting off the bus, walk half a block down the street to the corner of Manchester St and Lichfield Sts. The hostel is directly in front of you across the road - right behind the big palm tree.

From the train station, catch a shuttle bus for only NZ$5 to our door.

Taxi services are also available from both the airport and the train station.

Also, we're only a short walk from Cathedral Square and the Intercity bus depot in Worcester St.
