Jeremy and Dorothy Bird look forward to welcoming you to Glebe House, a nineteenth century Georgian Rectory in a beautiful setting tucked away in the lush Sligo countryside, overlooking Collooney village.

Bordering the meadows which surround the house is the Owenmore River, where brown trout jump for mayfly and salmon wend their way up to their spawning grounds in the Ox Mountains. The Owenmore river joins the River Unsinn at Collooney to become the Ballysadare River world famous for its Salmon Fishery.

Accommodations

Glebe House retains all the features of a period Georgian Rectory. It is set in 6 acres of parkland on the banks of the Owenmore River, with walled gardens, beautiful mature woodland and views over the Ox Mountains.


The interiors retain their original Georgian features and style. All our rooms are en suite and all double beds are king size. There are stacks of interesting books and magazines to read, and the emphasis is on a warm informal atmosphere. Our guest sitting rooms combine comfort with old world elegance.

Amenities

Dining is available for residents. All meals are carefully prepared using the finest local ingredients including fruit, vegetable and herbs from the old walled garden. Seafood, direct from Atlantic ports is a speciality, as is the unusual and interesting selection of wines.

Meals are served in the light and airy Georgian dining room where French windows open on to the garden. Dorothy is a professionally trained, and accredited award winning Chef, whose exciting and diverse style has won acclaim. Due to the necessity to source fresh ingredients we do require advance notice for dining.

Fishing is available in the Owenmore river on the grounds.

Built in 1820 as a rectory for the sum of £800, half of which was provided by local parishioners - the the other half by the Church of Ireland, Glebe House was residence to many interesting rectors, not least of which was George McCormick (Seoirse Mac Cormaic), a poet and famous for his hospitality in the early 1900s - among his family's close friends was the artist Jack B Yeats.

The Church of Ireland sold Glebe House in the 1950's and it was uninhabited for several years before its restoration in the early 1990s. Jeremy and Dorothy Bird are the current owners and have continued to develop Glebe House's reputation for excellent cuisine in the ambience of a period Georgian rectory. The house is easily accessible from Dublin by train to Collooney Railway station.

From Belfast - Via Enniskillen to Sligo then take the N4 to Collooney - 190km
From Sligo Airport Follow directions for Dublin then turn off dual carriage way for Collooney - 15km
From Knock Airport Travel towards Sligo turn off dual carriage way for Collooney - 40km

Collooney Train Station - 1 field away!

Once your in Collooney take the road for Ballisadare, cross the river and and then take the next left - sign posted for Coolaney (Cool Annie)
