Warning: The Department of State warns American citizens against travel to Guinea-Bissau, and warns Americans in Guinea-Bissau to depart immediately if they can safely do so. Tensions in Guinea-Bissau continue due to outbreaks of armed conflict. The U.S. Embassy has temporarily suspended operations and all official Americans departed Guinea-Bissau as of June 14, 1998.
U.S. Embassy Bissau suspended operations and all official U.S. citizens departed Guinea-Bissau on June 14, 1998. U.S. citizens who plan to enter Guinea-Bissau are encouraged to register with the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy at Avenue Jean XXIII, Dakar, Senegal. The mailing address is B.P. 49, Dakar, Senegal. The telephone number is (221)(8) 23-42-96.
With the suspension of Embassy operations in Guinea-Bissau, the Department is unable to provide information on current conditions in Guinea Bissau.
