Built on a penninsula and surrounded by 5000+ ft. mountains of the Wrangell-St.-Elias range of the "Inside Passage", the number one cruise-ship destination of the world, Fort William H.Seward (named after president Lincolns secretary of state)was a staging area for supplies going on to the "gold-fields"of the Klondike. The start of the historic "Dalton Trail".Fort Seward is part of the city of Haines,located just 14 miles south of Skagway and is near the 48,000 acre Bald Eagle Preserve in which over 3,000 eagles may be viewed in their natural habitat beginning each fall.The Haines area boasts a year-round eagle population of 200 nesting pairs.Hence the name "Valley of the Eagles".Haines/Fort Seward is located just a half-hour away by air from Glacier-Bay National Monument.Haines is the northern highway link to the interior being just 40 miles by road from the British Columbia border and 96 miles from the YUKON Territory.Haines/Fort Seward is located 90 miles north(40 min.by air) from Juneau, and 4.5 hours by the Alaska Marine Highway ferry.

This 3-story Victorian boasts nearly 6,000 sq.ft.with the owners quarters on the 3rd floor or(garret).There are 5 rooms with 3 shared baths and 2 suites with private baths. The first floor has 3 rooms, complete with Belgian-tile fireplaces and two full, shared-baths and the main kitchen from which a full-breakfast is served family style each morning. The second floor has two-rooms each with private bath, and two complete, one-bedroom suites(4B with full kitchen),with private baths, microwave, refrigerator,and cable tv/vcr.
Rooms/Suites
Ocean-view rooms include, room#1 on the main-floor and Suite 4A on the second. Room #3 on the main-floor is the former dining salon replete with the original beveled-glass door buffet and Belgian-tile decorative fireplace. All rooms contain original cast-iron radiators. Rooms #1,#3,and Suite 4A also contain sofas. All rooms have cable TV.

Totem-pole carving,art galleries,and restaurants within walking distance of House #1. Bicycles and helmets available for guest use ,free of charge. We also have a porta-crib, high chair and queen-size air-bed available for the little ones and extra guests. A large gas Bar-B-Que is also available on the front porch. All guests have kitchen privileges on the mainfloor.

Courtesy van service to the airport,state ferry(4.5 miles) and Water-taxi and shuttle. All rates include a full-breakfast consisting of homemade sourdough pancakes, eggs, turkey-Ham(93% fat free),toast, cereal(hot & cold) coffee,tea,juice and seasonal fruit.
