Surrounding Area

Within walking distance we offer scenic hiking trails, mountain biking, "foefie" slide rides and horse riding. Hiking trails in the forest enable you to explore the forest in all its aspects. Trails differ from less than a km to a two-day trail. On this scenic trail you might just spot leopard, caracul, bushbuck, Knysna loerie and numerous other indigenous animal and bird life. The mountain biking offers a one to five day trails, varying in difficulty. Mountain bikes are available at our reception for R55.00 half a day or R65.00 full day. Adrenalin adventures include a staggering 220m bungi jump from a bridge, blackwater tubing on the Keurbooms river, scuba diving, canoe trips down the Keurbooms river. Whale watching in season - from the beach, a boat or even from the air! Ferry trips on the Keurboom river are done by Keurboom River Ferries. In Knysna the John Benn, Rivercats and Knysna Ferries take you on the Knysna estuary from where you have spectacular views of the famous and notorious Knysna Heads. Fishing opportunities for the eager angler are also a popular past time for locals and tourists alike. Visit Harry, Sally and Duma - three adorable little African elephants at the Elephant park. This is your chance to get real close to one of Africa's big five. The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe takes you on a nostalgic trip from Knysna to George on this 1896 class 24 or class 19 steam locomotive. See the best of the picturesque coastline while you travel through the enchanting scenery. Go on a boat trip through Ocean Adventures or Ocean Safaris, watch the whales (in season), dolphins, seal colony etc. Enjoy a "BUNDU BRAAI" at night in the forest, where you will be able to experience nature at its best. You can even go on a guided walk through our beautiful forest.

Harkerville Forest Lodge offers:
In the main house: Two double rooms en-suite, as wel as one twe bed and one three bed room with bathrooms to share.
In our Backpacker: Two twelve- bed and twelve four-bed dormitories, with full use of the fully equipped kitchen. Tent-camping facilities next to the Backpackers is also available. To top this, we offer a two-bed tree house for that breakaway with a difference!
A fully equipped backpacker bar with pool table, satellite TV and sundeck with adjacent tea garden and swimming pool enhances the lodge.
Telephone, fax and Internet-facilities available for backpackers' use.

Rooms/Suites

We offer 2 x double rooms en-suite, 2 x 12 bed dorm, 12 x 4 bed dorms, 1 x 2 bed forest cabin, 1 x 2 bed treehouse as well as camping.

Amenities

We have our own Restaurant for breakfasts and evening meals, lovely swimming pool, sun deck, with a cosy bar, as well as our 115m long "Foefie" slide (cable slide).
Internet (ISDN) is available.

BIG FOOT EXPRESS

Resident tour operator to HARKERVILLE FOREST LODGE, Big Foot Express, offers a shuttle service to Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and surrounding areas. Special day trips and tours can also be arranged. Reservations should be made at the Reception desk.

Want to go see the night life in Knysna and Plettenberg Bay but don't know how to get there? BIG FOOT EXPRESS comes to the rescue! Party the night away and be driven home safely.

In Knysna the cosy atmosphere of Long Barn Tavern offers live music, excellent food and good vibes.
For the ravers among you, try Al's Dance Club with two dance floors and a variety of music.
Tin Roof Blues offers live music and a good party vibe, while Gossips is a laid-back, cosy, cocktail bar where the kitchen stays open till early morning hours. Famous Irish pub and grill O'Hagans can be found on the way to the notorious Heads while you can enjoy excellent food at Cranzgots right in the Heads.

Moby Dick on the beach in Plettenberg Bay is an excellent sea food restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere to blend in with their menu. Difficult though to decide between Moby Dick and
The Med Seafood Bistro in the Main Street. Great food to tantilate the palate of the seafood lover.
Alternatively try Cranzgots's in the Main Street for pizza. To dance the night away in Plett try Vages.
