Surrounding Area
The Porcupine is located in the heart of the Adirondack Park and High Peaks region of New York, just seven miles west of Lake Placid and minutes from lakes, trails, shopping, and fine restaurants.
Accommodations
One of the most extraodinary homes in the area, "The Porcupine" was designed by William Coulter and built for author, poet, and editor of the "Atlantic Monthly", Thomas Bailey Aldrich, in 1903. It is located in a beautiful neighborhood of similar homes, on almost four acres of property, with a few of the Adirondack mountains and woods. The house was named "The Porcupine" by the original owner because of it's many good points and because authors of that day were called "quill pushers".
