Surrounding Area

We are located on a hill above pristine Squam Lake, the second largest lake in New Hampshire. The water is crystal clear and famous for kayaking and canoeing. This area is also surrounded by all kinds of hills and mountains, including the famous White Mts. of NH. It is full of hiking and biking trails and scenic vistas. Within a 2 min. drive is also the Science Center of NH full of live animal exhibits and summer programs for all ages.

Accommodations

Our large, historic stone church was built in 1888 and is a famous local landmark. It was featured in a write-up in YANKEE MAGAZINE in Jan. 1991 pg. 80-86. The church sits in a lovely clearing surrounced by tall pines and hardwoods.
The magnificent turrets, gardens and stonework constantly stop passersby. There is an outside deck area in back and a scenic brick patio in front. Inside the 4500 sq. ft. structure there is a modern solarium spa with guest hot-tub and glass tables for sunny breakfasts. Throughout, the antique woodwork and stone masonry is softened by the light from 30 original stained-glass windows. There is also a formal diningroom available to guests. Daily, huge, home-made gourmet breakfasts are served at guests' convenience.

Rooms/Suites

The guest suite is luxurious with stained glass, 6 opening glass windows, two bathrooms featuring woodwork from the original church altar, stereo, queen bed, phone, armoire and couch. The guest room adjoins the solarium spa and formal dining/living room.

While guests rave about our breakfasts, there are all kinds of excellent dining facilities nearby. We are glad to recommend and make reservations for guests depending on their dining preferences.
We are located one minute from Squam lake with all kinds of water activities available. We are also in the midst of great hiking and biking country.

Directions

From Boston, Mass. (Logan Airport) take I-93 North to New Hampshire Exit 24 (Ashland/Holderness exit). Turn right at the exit ramp and follow Route 3 South through the town of Ashland to where the road forks. Follow the left fork east on Route 3 into Holderness. On the left is the Holderness post office. On the right is a Citgo gas station at the Golden Pond Country Store. Turn right, up Shepard Hill Rd. Our church B&B is the large stone manor near the top of the hill on the left. It is about a nine minute drive from I-93.
