Active Adventure
You will be picked up from the airport or accommodation prior to any ride. For wine region cycling, there will be tastings at smaller boutique wineries and a tour of an historic winery. For those inclined, an off-road ride through forest is great fun.
Following a gourmet picnic lunch, continue riding and visit another winery, followed by a fruit processing company that offers delicious options.
If staying in the region, your accommodation will be either a heritage-listed Bed and Breakfast or a modern, ornate guest house in amongst the vines.
If your tour is to the more rugged Flinders Ranges, accommodation will be converted sheep shearer's quarters. We'll ride out through picturesque gorges, past ancient folded mountains that were once higher than the Himalayas and then were part of the seabed. We'll have a picnic lunch by a water hole where, if it's warm, you can immerse yourself in the clear water. We'll continue riding, finishing up with a traditional Aussie Bbq and hospitality.
Typical Day
We typically ride to suit the conditions and your ability. The air-conditioned back up bus is there if you feel like a rest. The distance you ride therefore is your choice.
Breakfasts will be a choice of continental (cereal, juice, toast, coffee/tea) or traditional. Energy bars, fruit and spring water wil be available during the day. Lunch is often a picnic at locations that will have bathroom facilities and, where possible, small shops. The evening meal will be either prepared by your guide or at hand-picked restaurants. In either case, fresh local cuisine is served wherever possible. This is complemented by your choice of wine (see below).
South Australia produces over 60% of Australian wines and they are becoming renown for quality, value-for-money drinking. We leave the ultimate decision to you as to your drinking preference although Rolling On... guides may suggest wines that are either unique (only available at the cellar door) or particularly good value for money (end of vintage specials, for example).
Age range, type of group
Rolling On... tours have been enjoyed by all age groups. School groups are catered for (12 years and over) as are larger groups of adults.
A typical group will be professionals, perhaps 30% from Australia and the rest from other parts of the Western world. Cycling is an activity where you'll meet like-minded people and, by the end of the trip, you may find it hard to farewell them !
Sleeping and meals
Accommodation ranges from twin share shearer's quarters in the Flinders Ranges to quality hosted Bed and breakfast establishments.
Meals range from delicious Bar-b-ques to stylish, yet good value restaurants. South Australia is fast becoming the gourmet state of Australia.
Restrictions
Participants may be restricted to bringing one piece of luggage (suitcase or smaller).
