Active Adventure

We offer two complete one-week riding holidays, each designed to explore as much as possible of this unique and captivating land.

You will be riding for five or six hours a day. There are plenty of opportunities for canters and gallops, but if you prefer you can amble along gently. Either way, you will discover the real beauty, enchantment and diversity of La Alpujarra.

You will climb the high mountains of Sierra Nevada and pass through the beautiful foothills, the woods, water and valleys of this magical region of Spain. Riding from village to village, staying at small hotels along the way, eating at local restaurants, stopping for picnics besides rivers or high in the sierras, surrounded by thick carpets of sage, rosemary and thyme.


Horse & Hound Magazine summarised the experience, "Great horses, fantastic scenery, a never-to-be-forgotten week". Organised and led by local stable owner, Dallas Love, she has more than 20 horses, all broken-in and schooled personally by her. She has a wonderful reputation for the quality of her riding holidays: excellent horses (all Andalucian or Andalucian cross-breeds carefully chosen for their intelligence, endurance and good nuture), a lifetime's knowledge of these mountains and her own carefully researched trails are just some of the secrets of her success. As "Horse & Hound" said, "her determination to make everything as much fun as possible is only superceded by her love of her horses".

The treking holidays are restricted to a maximum of ten people. It is not a holiday for beginners or raw novices, you should be capable of handling a horse at all paces. However, you do not need to be an expert, Dallas will take care to choose exactly the right horse for you. No jumping is involved.

Age range, type of group

Each group is restricted to a maximum of ten people. Adults only, some couples, some singles, some young and some not-so-young. The most important requirements are that you love horseback riding, magnificent mountain scenery amid the authentic flavour of rural Andalucia and a spirit of adventure and fun.

Sleeping and meals

On each of the rides, we stay in little hotels and hostals along the way. Breakfast, lunch (or picnic) is included and dinner on all but one evening (when you choose exactly what you want to do). Your luggage will be transported from hotel to hotel for you.

Restrictions

No children, no beginners.

Rates

For the year 2000 programme the price is 830 British pounds (approx. 1,330 US$); Single accommodation supplement 110 British pounds (approx. 175 US$) for a one week holiday. Inclusive of seven night's hotel accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner (except on one evening), transfers to and from Granada, support vehicle, luggage transfers, horses & guide. The price does not include flights.

We also offer short rides (two hours minimum), half and full day rides (subject to availability) for anyone alread here in La Alpujarra.

We are also experts in local holiday accommodation (cottages, farmhouses, rural hotels etc.) and trekking holidays here in our sunny, magic mountains in the beautiful Province of Granada.

We are a local company (fully bonded and complying with all statutory and travel industry requirements) based in the high mountain village of Bubion in La Alpujarra. We all speak good English (well, we try!).
