Description - Oakland House Seaside Resort

Ride a lobster boat to tour the bay! - Oakland House Seaside Resort - downeast & acadia maine bed & breakfasts brooksville

Surrounding Area

Oakland House was opened July 4th, 1889 by innkeeper Jim Littlefield's Great-grandparents Sea Captain Emery Herrick and his wife Flavilla. Guests arrived on the coastal steamships that brought them right to Herricks Landing. Visitors were welcomed into their newly renovated farmhouse hotel for a blissful stay of a month at a time.
As those early guests spent their leisure in the cool breezes blowing in off the waters of Eggemoggin Reach, so do guests today enjoy the same privacy, trails for hiking, and space to dream...to say nothing of the sheer delight in the scents and feel of the fifty acres of coastal "Herrick" shorefront.

Accommodations

Oakland House is a family tradition. there are grassy play lawns for croquet, volleyball, tetherball, impromptu soccer, and paper plane flying contests. On the premises are the sandy ocean and lake beaches, a dock, moorings, and rowboats for guest use. Kayaks and canoes are available for rent, as are skippered sailing and powerboat cruises of the bay.

Rooms/Suites

There are 15 family-sized vacation homes (cottages) with real woodburning fireplaces, FREE firewood, and authentic rustic charm. Shore Oaks Seaside Inn was built right at the water's edge, it's little gazebo sitting right over the waves at high tide. Shore Oaks has all the soothing amenities of a sophisticated B&B and has 10 bedrooms, most with private bath, and some with fireplaces. It's for older families and adults.

Amenities

The Oakland House Hotel living room, porch, parlor and library are now the Oakland House Restaurant's dining rooms. Several of these dining rooms are specifically for families with children.
Many small businesses find this resort just the perfect spot for seminars and conferences. It is a fabulously romantic wedding site and each season many honeymooners begin their married lives together here. The cottages offer just the right blend of privacy and comfortable surroundings.
